How the Idea Was Born: #pilicorazon
“I just opened the box of books yesterday!
They are wonderful; thank you so very much!
I have placed a few on our inpatient library shelf
and I’m sure they will be a hit! “
These were the words of Nicole, Coordinator of Child Life Services NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst. Early February we had donated books to the pediatric department of Elmhurst before it became the pandemic epicenter. On March 27, The Guardian described New York as the center of the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, and Elmhurst hospital in Queens, the center of the center.
Probably you don’t know but, The Adventures of Pili was born in Jackson Heights. Not far from the current United States pandemic epicenter. A group of parents from the neighborhood sent me drawings to pass along to the Hospital, and they got back to us.
¨Thank you so much for thinking of us in the midst of all the chaos. I am so touched by these beautiful messages; they are most definitely needed at a time like this. Please thank these children and their parents for the lovely words of encouragement.¨
So this is how and why the team at The Adventures of Pili decided to encourage and empower children to share their messages of love. To the hospital, to the doctors around the world, to nature or to the universe.
